August 14, 2020 Update

August 14, 2020

Dear Clients,

It’s hard to believe that summer is almost over! We hope everyone has found ways to stay cool and keep smiling. Most of us in the office have been preparing children to go back to school, interns Ashlyn and Tanner are moving to Bloomington as IU students in a few days. We want to send a huge THANK YOU to all educators who are demonstrating maximum flexibility and creativity to keep our young people on track as best they can.

It’s a Girl!

Bookends Financial Planning is pleased to announce our newest team member, Lucy Marie Hargis. She arrived safely on 7/30, weighing 7lbs, 12 oz., 18 inches long. Lucy is a very relaxed baby and is settling in nicely with her boisterous older sisters. She hasn’t yet been given an official title but her arrival has certainly been the reason for much joy in the office.
Congratulations to Heidi & Dave!

Speaking of Girls….

Presidential Candidate Joe Biden announced Kamala Harris as his VP running mate this week. One of the top questions we have been asked lately is how will the Presidential election result affect the stock market and portfolios?

Click here for a piece from Brian Levitt, Global Market Strategist for Invesco North America, highlighting the 10 truths no matter the outcome of the 2020 Presidential Election.

Our 10 truths no matter who wins:

1. Markets have performed well under both parties.
2. Investors are better off staying fully invested.
3. We do not radically re-engineer the US economy.
4. The historical narrative is not as you remember it.
5. Signature legislative accomplishments are infrequent, and the impact is not always as expected.
6. Predictions tend to be wrong.
7. Monetary policy matters more.
8. It’s okay if you don’t like the President. The market doesn’t care.
9. No, this is not the most vitriolic election. (Anyone see Hamilton?)
10. Don’t confuse partisan politics with market analysis and keep your eye on one indicator.

We can all agree that no matter who holds office in January, the US economy will face the same headwinds. The important questions we want to answer for clients relate directly back to YOUR financial plan.

So Let’s Talk About Risk…

We have an updated risk profiler that combines a “financial plan” score with an “investor” score that we’re asking clients to complete during review meetings. Sarah Boston has a new Book Club video where she features peppers fresh from the garden to talk about risk!

The Power of Financial Planning

We would like to extend a thank you to those of you who have referred new clients to us recently! You have given us the greatest compliment by doing so. Beyond investment portfolios, financial planning is designed to answer questions and empower decision making. If you know of anyone who is seeking a financial planner, we are accepting new clients and appreciate the referrals!

As we move toward the last half of the year be sure to get your review scheduled! We offer meetings in person, via Zoom or phone and are scheduling now through Thanksgiving.
